Great Meeting today with good turnout of Optimists to hear High School Drama Director Mike Blood update members on upcoming events, especially the High School Play, "Thoroughly Modern Millie", again featuring our very talented Drama students and faculty. According to Mike, nearly 80 of the 100 students involved in Drama Club are either participating or supporting the play. He reminded club members that it costs almost $18,000 to put on the play, which is recovered from ticket sales. Mike also reminded everyone that there are always seats available for performances, so plan to attend to enjoy our local talent! This is the first time the Antigo High School has featured "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and promises to be the best performance ever. Lots of talent and dedication!
Nick Salm agreed to work with Optimist Bob Ourada to help organize the Youth Fair at Sheldon Fieldhouse Wednesday, March 31st. Volunteers at the meeting were Optimists Ann Peck, Matt McCabe, Nick Sphatt and Bill Kelly. More will be needed to help staff the booth to let the High School students know what Optimists do in the community. Any ideas for some special prizes for drawings would be helpful. Bill Kelly will again set up the Salvation Army booth next to Optimist booth and promised not to go to the emergency room this year. Hopefully, Bob still has some of the great photos from last year. I have been working on some photo albums of club activities which may be far enough along to display.
Nick reviewed the Music in the Park schedule, including opportunity for Optimists to do the August 9 Picnic in the Park to raise funds for Music in the Park and July 19th to raise funds for Optimist projects and Music in the Park. Salm Partners Sausage will again donate the sausage for picnics to raise money for Music in the Park. July 19th may be opportunity to do strawberry shortcake???? Other ideas needed. If we do pie and ice cream, will need in excess of 80 pies. Expect 1,000 people for this concert! May get 1,000 for John Grenier concert as well.
Here are upcoming programs: What a GREAT way to keep up on what is going on in our community and in the Optimist Club. PLEASE don't rely on my updates to keep informed!
