August 2nd,

Hello All,

The busy fair was over as of last night.  It looks like we had another good year thanks to all of the people who do the many things necessary to get the many jobs done.  I would like to thank all who contributed in any way to our success.

Also, The after fair thank-you party will be on Thursday, Aug. 5th, at City Park West.  This is also the location of the bandstand.  After the picnic, all who wish can also stay for Music in the Park, which will feature Northern Aires Heritage Orchestra and Second Edition (2 polka bands)

Also attached is the agenda for the August board meeting.

Sam Hardin, Pres.

Please note that After Fair picnic for ALL Optimists, Kiwanis members and Fair Board will be THIS THURSDAY, Aug 9 at City Park Shelter by the Bandstand at 5:00 PM followed by music at 7:00 PM. I'm certain Sam would like some help getting the supplies for picnic. I will have equipment to cook sweet corn if we want to have that on menu again.

We have lots of refreshments left over from fair, we will also have hamburgers, brats, buns, potato  salad, cole slaw and other stuff.
Anyone wanting to bring desserts is VERY welcome to do so. There will also be pie and ice cream at the concert, starting about 6:30 PM.

Mike Sohasky tells me he will also have preliminary numbers from parking. Will need to get from Bob Ourada and Ralph Uttke for Cheese Curds also.

As a footnote, John Rhode and son Jacob along with Bill Kelly, Shawn Behrens, Jeanette and I cleaned up the Curd Wagon Sunday evening and moved it to storage. Still needs a good going over, but at least the major stuff is cleaned.

Another item for your volunteer spirits, if not already worn out, Optimists and Friends of OPtimists will again be serving a Music in the Park Picnic Monday Aug 9 starting about 4:00 PM. Any help would be appreciated. The menu will be baked potato, Salm Sausages, Cole Slaw and all the Dairy Toppings provided by Dairy Promotion Committee. Potatoes are donated by Wysocki Farms and being prepared at no cost by Mary at KC Hall. Cole Slaw by Farmers Home. Need Optimists to cook the sausages and serve the meal. Jeanette and I will pick up all the supplies.

Remember tomorrow, Optimist Meeting at Northstar, NOON. Program is Nick Sanchez from Boys and Girls Club. By the way, I had people come up to me at the fair and ask "How do I get into the Optimist Club?" along with how many members, what to we use the money for, where do we meet, when etc. Got me thinking that we may be missing a great opportunity to get more people involve in Service Clubs, including Kiwanis. We may want to consider having Optimist Brochures at Cheese Curd Ticket Booth. Might help us get more volunteers for parking and Curds.

My last message was ambiguous and confusing to many. To be clear, EVERYONE AND FAMILIES from Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club and Fair Board are invited AND encouraged to come to the after fair picnic THIS THURSDAY Aug 5 at 5:00 PM at City Park Shelter by Bandstand.
Menu will be grilled hamburger, brats, buns, sweet corn, potato salad, cole slaw, water, soda, beer AND lots of good conversation. In fact, if you know someone who might like to join Optimist Club or Kiwanis Club, bring them along to introduce them to two of the best volunteer service clubs in Antigo!

Now, for those of you who would like to help serve the Music in the Park Picnic, August 9, starting at 5:00 PM, volunteers should try to be there by 4:00 PM or even earlier, please open the attachment and sign up to help and send back to me. The menu for Music in Park Picnic will be Fresh dug and Fresh baked potato, Sausage, cole slaw and all the dairy toppings for the potato. Funds raised for Free Will Offering Picnic will go to fund Music in Park for 2011. Potatoes are donated by Wysocki Farms, Sausages by Salm Partners, Dairy toppings by Langlade Dairy Promotion Board. We will have containers of free water placed in the park (kept filled by volunteer Jerry Jacobus). Other groups will sell pie and ice cream and soda.

ANOTHER NEW IDEA! Any Optimists who would like to set up popcorn machines, being made available by Parsons and B&G Club and sell popcorn as fund raiser for Optimist Club should sign up on attached form. Before it can work, we do need someone or couple of people to order supplies, set up and take down the booth. Can set up by the light pole with lots of electrical power. Could be good fund raiser for Optimists. 10% goes to Music in Park to fund 2011 concerts.

Nick Sanchez, B&G Club Director was speaker today. Club authorized up to $3,500 to help cover cost of transportation for members of B&G Club. Nick reported on the success of Summer Camp. Some members had children or grandchildren who participated with VERY positive feedback.
Nick also reported that B&G Club is partnering with ASCS (All Saints Catholic School) to do Cultural Enrichment Programs. Contact B&G Club for more details. Brochures are also available to help all of us better understand the mission of B&G Club.

RE the above note committing up to $3,500 to B&G Club, Nick Sanchez has arranged for B&G Club to have a booth at Fuddfest this coming weekend, when the campers are arriving, to serve food, including Cheese Curds using Optimist Equipment. If some Optimist members can assist Nick to make the fund raiser successful, the money made will be part of the $3,500 we have committed to B&G Club. This is a real opportunity for any Optimists or Friends of Optimists to make a real contribution to B&G Club and help Optimists meet financial committment, and enjoy the opening weekend festivities of Fuddfest. After Sunday, the booth must be taken out because the regular vendors will be opening. Many times, when campers pull into a campground, they are looking for ready made, good food, prepared by someone else. This could be a real opportunity to help B&G Club and have a good time. Optimist equipment is available to help make it a success. Please call Nick Sanchez at B&G Club to volunteer.

You may also want to put August 17 on your calendar for the long awaited pizza party with the Merrill Optimist Club. Details to follow.
